GUWAHATI, ASSAM: Former Assam BJP president and Rajya Sabha MP Indramoni Bora died at the age of 81 on Saturday at his residence in Ujhan Bazaar area of Guwahati.
While the leader retired from active politics after his Rajya Sabha membership expired in June 2007, he continued to be associated with grassroots party workers.
Bora was instrumental in strengthening the party’s roots in the northeastern state between 1991 and 2007. He was elected as the Assam BJP President in the year 2003.
He worked closely with the late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and senior party leaders LK Advani and Murali Manohar Joshi.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister of State Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed condolences on the demise of the leader.
